Disney announced Disney Infinity: Toy Box on Wednesday, a companion app for the console that lets you build new worlds, interact with characters and transfer the entire experience to your console to play on the big screen.
Build Your World
The iPad version of Toy Box lets you create new experiences for your toys. The app is stored with more than 60 different terrains and decorations. You can drag and drop items to any spot on the page to build worlds as simple or as elaborate as you’d like.
Once an item has been unlocked on your console, it also becomes available on the iPad. Purchased retail items can be used in both the console version of the game and remotely on your tablet. If you don’t own the console version, items are available for purchase on the iPad for $0.99 as an in-app purchase.
Buy Once, Play Everywhere
Perhaps the most interesting part of the Toy Box iPad app is its ability to sync to any other device using your Disney ID. For instance, you can save a world created on the iPad version to the cloud using your Disney ID and then access it from your Xbox, taking advantage of the better graphics on the console and the larger screen on the TV. The reverse is also true; you can start building on your console and then finish it on-the-go with your iPad.
Syncing works also works on others' devices. So if your son creates a magnificent world during the four-hour ride to visit grandma, he can load up his world on his cousin’s Infinity once you arrive.
At launch, the free app will only be available for the iPad (second generation and above, including the Mini). While designed as a companion app for the console, the app can be used independently by those who don't own the console version of Infinity.
Disney Infinity is set to arrive for consoles on Aug. 18. The Toy Box iPad app is slated to launch shortly after in the coming weeks.
