Android 5: Things We Know Till Date

Every year, Google releases a major Android update that delivers new features, design tweaks and more. Last year, that update was Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, this year, it’s rumored to be Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

Last year, Google took the stage at Google I/O and announced several big name products including the original Nexus 7 and a new version of Android, Android 4.1Jelly Bean. Android 4.1 was Google’s replacement for its previous version of Android, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which arrived alongside the Samsung Galaxy Nexus back in 2011.

Like Google’s major Android updates, Android 4.1 brought a host of new features including a faster, smoother user interface, expanded notifications, resizable widgets, new camera gestures, Google Now and offline voice dictation. Many of those features can be seen in the Android 4.1 video below.

Spacehopper Studios has released a new racing game onto Android today which they are describing as the classic WipeOutgame reborn. Officially titled Delta-V Racing, this particular racing game has a retro flare to its visuals which you can check out while racing through the different tracks this game comes with. There is also a complete original soundtrack by UK Industrial Breakbeat musician DeathBoy.

Delta-V Racing is pretty much what you would expect it to be. Players will be racing against computer AI opponents or other player's Ghosts to see who can come in first place. You'll need to not only drive fast but tactically as everyone will have their fair share of weaponry to use. This also means you will be able to shoot down the competition as well.

Nokia's Upcoming Phone's titles leaked

Evleaks, the Twitter account that has been behind Windows Phone hardware leaks in the past, has now fired out numerous codenames that are reported to be hints at future handsets from Nokia. These codenames include the "Bandit," which is billed as a 6-inch 'phablet '. While this leak doesn't reveal much, it's handy to have them jotted down somewhere for future reference, should further details eventually emergeNokia has moved from its original slow renewal period to releasing new hardware every other month. We've only recently witnessed the Lumia 625, Lumia 925, Lumia 928 and Lumia 1020 enter the consumer markets, but already we're seeing hints are devices on the horizon. What will be interesting is how Nokia plans to further offer variation in its product line-up. As well as a 'phablet', could we also see a tablet running Windows 8?It's a possibility.

The first two things you’ll probably notice about the new Nokia Lumia 625 are its humongous 4.7-inch LCD display and its five swappable candy-colored shells, which come in orange, yellow, bright green, white, and black. Nokia said the 4G LTE-ready phone would go on sale in China, India, and other countries outside the U.S. in the next few months. Estimated price tag: 220 euros (which might vary by country based on local taxes and subsidies).

Behind that big screen is a solid Windows Phone 8 smartphone: The Lumia 625 has a 1.2-GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 512 MB RAM, 2,000mAh battery, and 8 GB internal storage—expandable to 64GB via MicroSD card. T-Mobile users in the United States now have the opportunity to buy the thin, light and beautiful Nokia Lumia 925. This new flagship device one-ups its stable mates, the Lumia 920 and 928, with a superior camera and a thinner and light form factor. It may be the most graceful Windows Phone handset ever made.

Of course, reviewing such a device in the wake of the Lumia 1020 is a bit unfair.

Sony's Xperia i1 Honami specs leaked

This week as we edge ever closer to the international tech conference known as IFA, we find devices like the Sony Xperia i1 leaking out in full – well before their official unveiling. Windows 8.1 Tips and Tricks

In Windows 8.1, Microsoft is finally provided the kind of in-box help that it should have shipped with the initial versions of Windows 8 and RT. This help takes two main forms: Pop-up help tips for the hidden and undiscoverable new navigational UIs in the OS, and a new app called Help + Tips.

I won’t beat this to death here but suffice to say I’ve written and spoken a lot over the past two years about the inscrutable new UIs in Windows 8/RT—like Switcher, Start, Charms, and the hidden app bars in apps—which require users to mistakenly activate them to discover them. That is, they’re bad user interfaces because they’re so non-discoverable. That Microsoft got defensive about this—one executive chimed in with the pithy “we didn’t do it to spite you,” triggering the belief that that was exactly what they did—is the final insult cherry on topof this UI disaster sundae.

But hey, they’re fixing it now. What’s a year between friends?

Xbox One release date, news and features

The forthcoming Xbox One got a bit of a kicking when it was first announced, landing itself in hot water with unpopular features including a mandated 24-hour online check-in and restrictions on the used games market.

However, in light of the reaction from disgruntled gamers, these features have been scrapped, pulling the Xbox One out of its initial positivity drought.

Wild Blood’s combat system comes together nicely as the single player campaign progresses. By the game’s final stages I was rolling into enemies to stagger them, unleashing a fury of sword swings and finally mopping up with a huge lightning attack. Boss fights and mid-mission mini-bosses spice up the formula by forcing players to uncover specific enemy weak points to progress. A handful of first-person turret defense and block-sliding puzzle sections also help pace each stage.
Although the dodge-heavy combat feels frantic and fun, like many 3D action titles clunky camera issues sometimes crop up. I often found myself losing health due to attacks coming in from off-screen as I frantically tried to swing the camera around to get a better viewpoint.
